Why Commission a Portrait

"Family faces are magic mirrors. Looking at people who belong to us, we see the past, present, and future."
- Gail Lumet Buckley

As a portrait painter I often like to think of myself as someone who captures spirits. Portrait paintings, when they are done well, hold the essence of a sitter so much that they are like lingering ghosts. The soul of a sitter when captured in an artistic rendition will fill a room with its presence and can echo through the ages allowing future generations a true glimpse back. It becomes an important connection with our past as sons and daughters become parents and grandparents.

Windows of opportunity can close quickly though. A four year old often loses the essence of being a baby by the time they turn the corner to five. A girl of eleven can begin to look like a young woman as she crosses the threshold to twelve. Sweet sixteen is once in a lifetime, and parents leave us much too quickly. It is important to make a connection with an artist when your heart is filled with moments you want to savor.

As a business owner or as the head of a company, or other establishment, a portrait painting offers you the opportunity to capture your spirit at the height of your success.

Fine oil and pastel portraiture adds intrigue and excitement to any environment.
